The process is the same - in both a needle dipped in ink lightly pierces the skin to push ink a few layers into it. With a machine tattoo, this process happens very quickly whereas with stick and poke, the ink is manually ‘poked’ into the skin dot by dot.

Therefore, if done correctly a stick and poke lasts just as long as a machine tattoo.

Depending on the design and artist, they can do.

However I think what makes stick and pokes most special is their delicate dotty texture, and the handmade quality this brings.

Again, the same as for a machine tattoo. It must be kept clean and moisturised until healed (2-4 weeks). I recommend washing it gently with soap each evening and after sweating, then keeping it moisturised with a simple fragrance-free moisturiser.

For an average sized tattoo (eg. 7cm x 5cm) it will take around two hours. As I come to you, you’ll be able to take breaks at your own pace and feel comfortable in your own home.

One of my favourite things about doing stick and poke is the time spent with a client; it always feels like a very special exchange to share either conversation or silence for those hours.
