WINNER - BEST NEW PIECE

BIRMINGHAM FRINGE FESTIVAL 2024

The Trying Rooms, a dance theatre double bill, is an eruption of words and movement. Creator and performer Kitty Pilgrim-Morris is joined onstage by her mother; at 60, Sharon Pilgrim-Morris is making her theatre debut. The show has an original score also made by Kitty Pilgrim-Morris.

The Agony of Definition opens the show. Here you will meet Claybourne, who has been in this place for as long as they have known. They are sure they have something they must tell you, but cannot for the life of them remember what it is. Once again, stuck in this Sisyphean nightmare

DAUGHTERED is the story of an unravelling, and the mother who bears witness to it. Drifting apart and falling together, mother and daughter grapple with how a love so intense can be corrosive when it’s misdirected. Change can feel violent, especially when it questions the very identity of ‘mother’ - shouldn’t a mother be able to save her child, protect them from all harm?

‘[the] mother daughter duo take us through a journey of how complex, convoluted, imperfect, and challenging the relationship is by design. Through their skillful storytelling, singing, movement and expressions, they truly held the space and captivated our attention.’
